Why We Think Women Should Never Have to Choose Between Being Beautiful and Building Beautiful Things

There has always been this strange idea that women have to choose.

You can wear the pretty dress… or you can do the hard work.

You can have polished nails… or dirt beneath them.

You can love flowers… or be the one digging the holes.

At Gafford Garden House, we don’t believe those things have to be opposites.

We believe some of the strongest women you’ll ever meet are the ones who wake up early to water the garden, haul bags of mulch across the yard, spend hours planting something they’ll enjoy months from now and still slip into a beautiful dress because it simply makes them feel like themselves.

Pretty dresses. Dirty hands.

When I first had the idea to show off the plants and flowers I was selling out of my backyard nursery I came up with these videos “A cute dress and a cute plant” where I put on a dress and shared a plant I had. After about the 4th video, my 5 year old niece comes up to me one week while we’re playing in the backyard and says, “Will you record one of those videos while I’m here!” I said what videos? and she says, the ones with the dresses Auntie. My head grew about 5x that day. My sister in law had been sharing the videos with her. That made me feel so much support. Then again, another close family friends shares with me they love watching my videos. Its so often we hear the exact opposite. So I decided to run with it, because the support moved me. Then I had to find some cute dresses for Ally and Sophie to wear during our brand shoot. The first and only person I had to think about was… Dressed By Jess!

A Collaboration That Felt Like Home

When it came time to photograph Gafford Garden House, I knew I wanted the images to feel different from what you normally see in the gardening world.

I wanted women who looked like they belonged in both places.

Women who could laugh while picking flowers, walk through the fields barefoot, kneel in the dirt without hesitation, and still look completely at home wearing something beautiful.

That’s why I was so excited to partner with Dressed By Jess.

Jess has an incredible eye for timeless, feminine pieces that feel effortless rather than precious.

Together, we spent the day out at the farm surrounded by flowers, nature, and rows of growing plants. The dresses moved with the breeze, the blooms stole the spotlight, and the dirt under our feet reminded us what this brand is really about.

Beautiful Things Take Work

Every garden begins with dirt.

Every bloom begins with patience.

Every harvest begins with someone willing to do the work long before anyone notices the results.
